For this seminar, we had the assignment to find a poster of a campaign that contributed to inspire, to bring awareness and to awake individuals and collectivity towards action.
I chose to bring a poster from the Atelier Populaire, a french activist group that occupied the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris during the may 68 protests france. It was formed as a collective of sriking workers and artists and created a plethora of posters and campaigning to support the political cause of the protest movement.
The poster I selected shows a caricature of charles de gaulle, with his characteristic hat and big nose that holds a baton over his head, as a symbolic representation of the brutal police regression during the protests. « L État c'est moi » is written in capital letters over his threatening hand. As an citation of Louis VIV, it is used as an allegory for de gaulles' absolutistic attitude to power and his attitude to the protests.
In context to our small history of political protest, we discussed the notion of "intersectionality" and the prefix "inter" in IAD. Inter refers to the space between entities, their overlapping and relations, and is therefore of particular importance to the semantics of the notion Interaction design. The term "intersectionality" combines said prefix with the political dimension of sections. It could be described as a framework to reflect on the dependencies of multiple identities in experiencing discrimination and privilege. As part of feminist discourse its goal is to avoid perpetuating systems of inequity towards other people through activism to address injustice in a another field.
