Nightmare:
Replacing the human component / the emotional component, autonomous decisions that are all of a blant, expressionless and uniform outcome. The automation trend threatens many work sectors, and has already gained ground in graphic design. Its current state are medicore, bland designs that are well recognisable in between human design work. But in a dystopia, Algorithms have taken over the whole process, and create a constant stream of inaesthetic, generic, and similar outcomes that dominate through affordability and rationalisation.
Dependency on the tool. Power of owning and depending on tools. Tools depend on systems. Tool autonomy? The right to repair is a broadly discussed topic of relevance to my subject, as it seems to be a deminishing value in consumer products and tools, the dependency on payment and maintenance can be a huge hurdle when working with a tool, especially when they require a high level of training on their use.
Pick a diploma work from the past years that you feel wasn’t really special /unique or didn’t push through enough of the topic / or was disappointing compared to the abstract/intention / or would create bad consequence
Remember: Was much research, and certainly much knowledge, but it failed to produce / result in a visual representation / more graspable means of accessing the research, and I feel that there was much awareness, but not much contribution. What benefit did the participants have after the project? For Designers it is just a project, for them it is their life / problem?
The much discussed question about the further development stands in the room, and one wonders if any attempts of acutally developing the project into a physical manifestation have been made.
